Just been watching the wonderful Jack Griffiths demo some Bad Cat amplifiers…. thoroughly enjoyable. And then I realised something is lacking…. (1) Fender amps rule (2) Tobias is the man! Just visited this video and Tobias just blows everyone out the water 🙏

My first real guitar was a 1974 Les Paul Custom (the 20th anniversary model). Complete piece of junk. This was the Norlin era with 2-piece bodies, 3-piece necks, crappy materials, gold plating that bubbled off, big headstocks with huge volutes, etc. The bridge pickup sounded thin and nasty. Absolutely no redeeming values whatsoever. And to think for not much more I could have bought a burst back then. Ugh.

It's always a treat to hear Tobias on an archtop, in classic jazz mode. His superb playing distracts from that pickguard -- one of the ugliest I've ever seen.

Tobias, thank you for your demos. I always pay attention when the algorithm presents them. I really appreciate the clean tones so we can hear the whole signal path. My Les Paul Custom is from ‘79 and is particularly good. I hear similar tones here !

The ease which he palms his plectrum and then flips it out again after fingerpicking is worth a mention. I usually drop it. Some player.

I love that Tobias always includes some different tones, along with what we expect from each model. In addition to typical LP humbucker thickness, he gets some transparency here that sounds great and suits the tune.

So good. I’m waiting to see if there is a guitar that Tobias can not make sound wonderful. So far, they all sound great.

I don't know how it's accomplished on a CNC machine, I certainly don't know how they did such inlay before it. Is guitars certainly rivaled anything made in his day. I bought Levin for $500 that pops, snaps, rings and reverberates like nothing I've ever heard in my life. It has a six-part booked top. That's right, six booked pieces form the top, from fine grain in the center where the vibration is greatest, to wide grain 5th and 6 pieces at the extreme ends. I think I may have one of the only one left of its kind. With the exception of six small abalone inlays in the first and third fritz, it appears to be a bottom of the line basic instrument. There's nothing fancy on the body, back or front and nothing fancy about the head. The neck is in six pieces. Two are glued together join down the center of the neck where Fender puts their mahogany truss rod cover. Two tiny pieces on the extreme sides of the head, a piece of ebony ortiq down the center of the neck for durability in maintaining straightness and the fingerboard of rosewood or Birch. The top is cedar or spruce and the back and sides are solid Birch. I will inquire about this guitar for the rest of my life. As I have heard, there are few records that survived the purchase of Levin Guitars.

Wonderful guitar. I sold these in the early to mid '70s, and personally own a 1973 ES-355. Plug this guy into two amps running both pickups at the same time ... what a sound. And see! Or rather, HEAR! Gibson was building some darn fine sounding pickups in the '70s, despite what "experts" say ...
